The piece — studio study of the same object.
Forty-one millimetres of steel around a sunburst dial that reads nearly black until light finds it. The piece we keep when a client wants a Rolex they will actually wear to dinner.

Specialist notes
This example came to us from a single owner who never took it out of the papers. The bezel is sharp, the cyclops is undistorted, and the movement has the even winding feel we look for on a 3235.
We hold Datejust when the dial is the point — not when it is a substitute for a sports watch that is not available. If you are choosing it because something else is scarce, we will say so.
A Datejust is the correct Rolex for more wrists than a Submariner is. That is not a fashionable thing to say, and it is still true.
Amina Rahman, senior specialist
The bezel is still sharp; the 3235 winds evenly in the hand.
